Cities are developing solutions for Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) using new technologies for deep shaft construction. The April/May 2021 issue of North American Tunneling Journal describes several innovations in shaft construction, including MnDOT’s Interstate 35 West CSO project. The Joint Venture of Kramer and Nicholson are leading the construction. Brierley Associates, working with lead designer Barr Engineering, developed a design for the excavation that enhances constructability and minimizes risk. Read the NATJ Article here.
